Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a manual therapy that works with the structure and function of the body. The principal on which it is based is that the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues are required to work smoothly together to maintain good health.

To achieve this state of balance, an osteopath uses techniques that incorporate, touch, physicalmanipulation, gentle rhythmic stretching and massage to improve joint mobility and ease muscle tension.  This aids blood and nerve supply to the body’s tissues and therefore promotes it’s own healing mechanisms. Osteopaths will offer advice on posture and exercise to further promote good health and help prevent symptoms from recurring.

Cranial Osteopathy

Cranial Osteopathy is a gentle, safe and effective form of treatment for everyone including babies and the elderly. The term ‘cranial’ can be misleading because although these techniques originated with the treatment of the skull (cranium), they are used to treat symptoms throughout the body.

The techniques use very specific, skilled light pressure to assist the natural ability of the body to release stresses and tensions.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most commonly used systems of healthcare in the world.  It originated in China at least 2000 years ago and has become popular in the UK over the past few decades.

The theory behind acupuncture is that there are a number of channels (sometimes call meridians) that travel throughout the body.  These channels hold a substance called Qi (or energy), and it is an imbalance of Qi within these channels that causes illness to result.  Acupuncture points are places on the channels where the body’s Qi can be accessed using a needle with each point having a different effect on the Qi that passes through it.

The flow of Qi can be disrupted by a number of causes – improper diet and lifestyle, emotional disturbances, physical trauma, and environmental factors to name a few. By examining the causes of the illness a suitable number of acupuncture points can be selected to rectify the imbalance and restore health.

Although moxibustion and cupping are often seen as separate treatments from acupuncture they are frequently used together.  The actual Chinese character for acupuncture, translated literally, means “acupuncture-moxibustion”.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a gentle, natural and effective therapy which uses remedies, powders and liquid drops. It treats the whole person by encompassing mind, body and spirit rather than treating symptoms alone, so allowing us to treat on the mental/emotional level as well as the physical.  Symptoms are seen as the body’s way of alerting us to a problem, and by assessing these and looking at the cause we can help the body to heal itself and bring about balance and health.  Whilst a ‘cure’ can never be promised most patients benefit from the experience and report a greater feeling of well-being following treatment with homeopathy.

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing.  It is administered by “laying on of hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive.  The Reiki Practitioner connects with this energy (also known as Reiki) and passes it through the healing.

If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.  Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use.  It has been effective in helping people feel better and create a beneficial effect.  It too works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques.

Healing

Spiritual Healing is a natural energy therapy which again may be used safely alongside conventional medicine and other therapies. The purpose of healing is to bring the body, mind and spirit into harmony and allow the body’s own natural healing process to function, so creating wholeness and a restoration to health.

It can be given for any illness or injury and is particularly good for relieving stress. Both physical and psychological problems may well respond to it. Healing may not always cure an illness, but it often alleviates pain, puts problems into perspective, and improves the quality of life.

There is always some benefit from receiving spiritual healing: it may be a change in one’s attitude of mind to the presented problem; it may bring an ability to cope; or it may bring the greatest gift of all, peace of mind.

Sports & Remedial Massage

Remedial massage is a deep massage undertaken to assist the body in it's return to normal health after an injury has been sustained. It is often applied to treat strains, sprains, broken bones, bruising and any other injury where the skin is unbroken.

Deep tissue massage removes blockages, damaged cells, scar tissue and adhesions left after injury.

It is also use to speed up recovery and promote a more complete healing. It is also effective treatment for conditions created by lifestyle,e such as RSI and back pain.
